Brooke Bednarz is one of my success stories as a newsroom leader, I’m humbled to report. (I do very little other than hire these days. These successful people find their own way and their own voice in the process of what we do.)
Back toward the end of 2016, I was looking to fill a difficult-to-recruit position in our Killeen newsroom, when she applied straight out of Texas Tech. Since her arrival in Central Texas, there hasn’t been much she hasn’t covered. This week, she got to fly among the clouds with the Golden Knights, the U.S. Army’s premiere parachute team. Her parents (and her bosses on the ground) were understandably anxious over this volunteer assignment. It ended well, she landed without incident. Every time she files a report, she impresses us back at the office. Here’s the video recorded by her compadres in the sky.
